Default Tranny Cooler install, need suggestions

Ok, I'm going to add a tranny cooler to my 87 Z52. It's factory equipped with the one in the radiator...but in my opinion, I don't think that does much good, as it runs alongside something that holds hot water! So...my question is, should I just bypass it, and run the exhisting tranny cooler lines to my new tranny cooler? Also, should I put the new tranny cooler between the radiator and A/C condensor. (That little space between the two) TIA!

I have a tranny cooler, and I didn't bypass the current one. I put it in-line with it. My tranny temps haven't gone over 200 yet, which is great.

I'm going to be doing an install this week too. Where can we mount them?

I got the Hayden (302 I think) from Pep Boyz. It is about 10 x 12, and mounted it vertically on the right side of the radiator, leaving room for an identical unit for oil cooler (future).

You MUST put it inline with the stock cooler, as the tranny requires a certain temperature to operate. If you bypass the stock cooler, it will run too cool and damage youy tranny.

I have to disagree with the above statement.

How many Tranny's do you know of that blew up because they were too cold ?Now, how many blew up because they were too hot ?

I know there are different thoughts on this issue, but I bypass my radiator completely. No problems for the last 10 years of using this technique on all my different cars.

I will do this on my Vette soon and report the Tranny temps.

B&M makes a stack tranny cooler that doesn't allow cold fuild through most of it's fins until it is hot enough. Kind of like a thermostat for the tranny. You can read it on their site.

I plan to bypass my old cooler.

Tim,
the tranny fuild is a lot hotter than the water in the radiator. So running it through the water actually cools it down. Not enough but some:D.
