Best value LT1 383 stroker kit out there?
Hey Guys!
Just wanted to see if anyone knows of a reasonable cost 383 stroker kit for a good street engine that's available? I have mixed feelings about running Eagle rortating assemblies, as I have heard of people having broken the cranks. I have been told Scat is the way to go, or at least one of many options. This is a project I'm going to do after the new year, so I'm in no hurry, just planning at this stage.
I don't plan to to do any strip runs, or run any power adders/blowers,etc... just want to stand on the go pedal and blast off when I want, so budget comes to mind here. cast crank/forged rods, forged pistons and I stout cam/ported LT1 heads,headers,etc...let me know what you think......and fill me in on any deals you might know of.
Thanks in advance!

A lot of people are happy with the offerings from Strokerkits.com. They seem to have about as good of a price as anyone and cheaper than most.
The kits include crank, rods, pistons, bearings and rings for less than 800 bucks for a cast 350/383 stroker with a Scat 9000 series crank.

I wouldn't be afraid of Eagle. I have eagle rods and a lightweight Eagle crank in my 383 (since 2005). It's a road race motor, spends all day at 6800 RPM and 300* oil temps. Never had an issue.

I personally like Eagle stuff. They had a bad run several years ago and that gave them a bad rep. They are as good as any of the budget cranks. I've never had clearance problems with them and have never broken one even in 500 HP applications.

stroker kit
Okay Guys,
I haven't really set a bottom line price for this project, but I agree, perhaps Eagle did get a bad rap, I haven't had any experience with them in the past, so it was just hear-say. what about clearance with regards to Camshafts? do we have to run a small base circle cam with these or? I'm looking at a Lloyd Elliot porting job on my stock heads, and one of the cams he recommends.I'll have to look for the specs he sent me, I don't have them in front of me, sorry. I'd say my budget for this project would be $3500.00 I'll be doing most of the assembly myself. I'm going to use a local machinist here in Kansas City that races dirt track with my uncle, and he's very good at what he does. I'm not saying I want to go cheap with this build up, but I don't want the wife to have a cardiac arrest either......I'm open to any ideas if you all have any.
Thanks again!

I believe that's the guy. He owns KC engine rebuilders (I think
That's the name of his shop-in claycomo) he's got a mean
Sprint car as well as the modified he runs. I'll get the specifics
From my uncle tomorrow. But I believe that's the guy.
Have a good one!

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SCA-1-41820-1/
or cast/ hyper for $700

I'm pretty sure that will be above his $3500 budget... :-) Although I was looking on Craigslist last night for Vette "stuff" and found several C5 Z06s going for $15K. Put mine for sale for $10K and then beg the wife for $5K?!??!?!? LOL - I suppose I can keep dreaming!

Hello just joined this site. I saw this thread and I love the open minded suggestions here. Officially migrating from ls1tech. I have an f body but still an lt1 :-) about the question at hand and the fact that most of you are not trash talking scat and eagle i've personally done a 383 kit from ebay over 4 years ago and it's still running strong. I went with the scat rotating assembly and I have no complaints. I'm getting ready to do a 396 in my 96 formula lt1 and i'm planning on going ebay again as the kits come with hastings rings and clevitte bearings. I was also gonna go with the lloyd elliot heads and camtoo aand by my figuring I figure I can get by with a 396 long block with some long tube headers and mail order tune for right at 4 grand. So I say if your budget is 3500 and you already have a lot of the supporting mods like the lt4 stuff and headers you should be sitting good for a 383. Everyone at ls1 tech claims you can't build one for less than 10 grand but apparently they seem to think you have to rebuild your trans and a big bad rear end before you can build a motor.

Besides that I believe scat had the bad rep early on because they had several crank failures in their cast series and they re designed them into a stronger crank. I'd say eagle are good stuff but I'd probably source a used Callie's crank instead. Experienced nothing but good things about eagle rods though I know a few engines running them.
If you're not planning to spray it I'd go with a hyper piston.
