Tuning Newbie seeks advice - what diagnostic software?
Hey Guys,
I'm just finishing up with the assembly of the engine shown in my sig., and will need to get to grips with the ECM. I currently have no means of even pulling codes (other then a paperclip and the SES light).
I was about to buy the Diacom solution when I noticed it comes in vanilla or plus, with a 200 buck difference in price!
What solution would the group collective intelligence recommend?

Thanks guys. I also just found and read the FAQ too - Boy, I'm spoiled for choice now! Being able to have a laptop in the car will shut my son up - he's a fan of Rice Burners, and viewed my car as old technology!

You can also let him now that AT LEAST american cars allow you to custom tailor the programming. Try doing that on a new stock Honda, Mazda, Toyota, Mitsubishi ECM. Almost impossible (well possible if you want to spend a good half/year modifying surface mounted boards).
this is free, the cable costs a buck to make, and it walks all over anything on the markety including craigs software
Problem is since it was originally designed for crossfire engines you can only use it on 160baud systems, 81-86 vettes or tbi camaros, and some other cars.

i just looked over your sig, if your still using the stock ecm check out the link.
