I have a 1992 Coupe Base and it has been at the shop for the last couple of months getting painted, polished and had the leather replaced on the drivers side, along with new weatherstripping. Everything was great when I dropped it off.
Once they finished, the car would not start. It sounded like the battery was ok. The started was turning over, but it would not fire. The found a couple of fuses (they didn't specify which ones to me) that were blown. They replaced them, put on the charger for a few hours, and it fired up.
I went and picked it up and drove it to the shop that put a battery in it about a year ago. They tested the battery and it checked out ok. So I brought it home, put it in the garage. About 6 hours later, I went to start it up, and it would not start again. I was able to jump start it, pulled it out of the garage and applied the brakes. When I hit the brakes, the engine died again. This time, it would not start by jump starting. I pulled out my charger, and charged the battery over night.
Ok, so I go out this morning to see if it will start, and it fired right up, no problem. I am sitting in the car while it was running, probably for about 6 minutes or so, when the engine starts surging and it dies again. This time it starts back up, but it dies again in under 15 seconds. Could I be looking at signs that the ECM is going, or could this be a sign the Opti is going? Any help would be appreciated.
..... Bob , I'm not getting the link ... it says page not found ..... to the OP ... the Opti won't cause the battery to die , but will cause the intermittent operating condition that you describe ...

I started it up again this morning, and drove it around the block. I made it 3/4 of the way. I stepped down on the gas and the engine died. I pulled over, and was able to restart it, but only went 15 feet and it died again. I had a tow truck come get it and take it to my mechanic. I will find out more next week, but I'm pretty sure it's either the Opti, or the ICM/coil.
Well, I pick up the Vette in the morning. The problem turned out to be a cracked distributor cap. Since we already tore everything down, I went ahead and had the Opti-Spark replaced with a brand new AC Delco distributor, along with new AC Delco wires. Now everything is brand new and my waterpump only has 3000 miles on it.
