My 89 has the 275/40/17 gsc's. I want to run slicks (about a 26x10.5x15).
Will a 15x10 rim fit, will it clear the calipers and rotor? I would only be running these at the track , so I won't really have to worry about offset, right?
that's a good good slick. I just got some 28's. Am worried about rubbing the fender well. I have heard that ya need to grind the calipers. Also, I think you will need 71/2" backspacing. So for example, a rim with 61/2" would need a spacer too.
Your car an auto or 6 speed?
My car's a 6 speed. Will I need the backspacing to clear the rotors/calipers? I don't care if the tires stick out too much .. well I certainly don't want them rubbing the fenderwells!!! I'm getting the MAD lowering kit installed too. If I wanna run these slicks, should I not install the lowering kit?
see, this is my prob too! I have installed the MAD kit already. I am gonna have to raise the car back up(which is easyily done by adjusting the nuts before and after racing) for the slicks on race days.
My concern is your clutch disc. What are ya gonna run? Slicks will fry the stocker.
So far I haven't had to worry about the clutch shocking...too much tire spin :D
I have a DRM single mass aluminum flywheel with a centerforce dual friction clutch hooked up with it.
I have a feeling that on race day, I'll just raise the rear suspension bolts to allow the tires to fit. I'm looking in the summit racing catalogue for slicks now.
While I got you here, will DR's hook up to give me a good time. How much of an ET drop should I see with slick vs. DR? I'm turning the GSC's going into 4th gear now. First gear is a joke..Playing with a G-Tech, I' m only getting like a 0-60 in 5.2 or so, I gotta feather the throttle a bunch, but it's showing 110 mph traps. Oh well, gotta take it to the track this year!
drooling over here! You've got a stout set-up!! I was not aware of your clutch set-up. As far as tire info, ask the prominent drag racers on the board. I was just staying away from the drag radials cuz I wanted wrinklewall slicks in light of the clutch. With the 26's you mention, you may not have to make too many height adjustments. Nice choice! That's smart shopping.
Looking forward to hear your track results!
