Default clutch fluid question

i have a 96 6spd and it is losing some clutch fluid. I have to refill once per month. I have a question about what that black rubber upside down magician hat looking thing is inside the clutch refill container. I mean it takes like almost the entire volume!!! I can fit like a bottle cap of clutch fluid in there. Anyway I can put more fluid? Make a small hole in it and cap it off with fluid on the inside as well?? I am barely losing fluid but with just space for a couple of ounces i have to eventually refill every month. Also any stop leak additive out there? If someone can please tell me what that rubber does ill be very greatful. And if I can just go w/o it.

compress the magicians hat flat...just like a magicians hat, fill reservoir, lay the now flattenned hat on top. It forms a barrier between the atmosphere and the fluid; just make sure that when the "magician's hat" opens (as the fluid level drops) it opens downward towards the fluid.

Not true ....... clutch reservoir 'hat' does not compress. You are mistaking this 'hat' for the brake fluid 'hat', which compresses.

Check the slave cylinder for leaks..... common problem.

I can fold mine up and have no problem. It takes a little manuvering to do it but it can be done. You need to place it back in the resevoir so it unfolds toward the used fluid. I've been doing this for the last 14 years about once every 6 months. Eventually I will get around to replacing both the slave and master but for now as small a nusience as it is I won't bother. I never see any wet fluid around anywhere but I suspect it's the slave.

well ill give it a shot unless someone comes up with a better solution. The amount that leaks out is so small that it probably evaporates before it even has a chance to leave a trace.

Default Stupid question

Hi Everyone!
I'm very new to this site and Corvette. I just purchased a 1984 Manual trans Corvette. I opened the Hood to check all of the fluid levels, and found all of them filled, except one. It isn't labeled, but is on the driver side firewall. Could anyone tell me what it is for, and what kind of fluid that I need to fill it with.

Thank you!

Under the computer = Clutch master.
Quality dot3 brake fluid works.
