Default Passive Keyless Entry light?

So I was driving my 96 today and the passive keyless entry light came on. I did NOT receive a key fob with the vehicle, certainly a mistake on my part. As such I have been using the key to lock and unlock the vehicle. I did a little searching and checked to see that the door ajar light was on which it was. Anyway, any idea's as how to proceed. I priced a key fob from my local Chevy dealer and they quoyed me around $187.00 for one!!!! I'm going to check e-bay first. As always thanks in advance!

I'm not sure where you want to go here. The PKE light coming on while driving probably indicvates a problem with the system, although it might have been caused by a sticky door ajar switch. Check for codes and see what comes up.

As for getting a fob, you can find them for about $130 new, try gmpartsdirect.com or ebay. But don't buy one until you verify that the PKE receiver seems to be working OK. Check the codes, and walk through the PKE fob programming procedure as far as you can without the fob before you buy one.
