Default PKE Unit Location

I took my car to the dealer and they told me that my PKE unit had died. The light on my DIC is lit up and it's a pain having to use my key, yes I got spoiled off of it. I need to replace the unit, but I have no clue where it is or how to get to it. Can anybody help?

If I remember it's in the back underneath the carpet along the wall. Been a while as mine doesn't have it. I have to go the hard way and use a key :)

The PKE module shud be located behind the DIC & under the tone generator. I think you may have to pull the upper trim panel to access. Don't know if you can get at it thru the DIC (removed). This is for a 95, I assume yours is the same.

The PKE module is directly behind the DIC on the inside of the dash panel. The shop manual says to remove the dash pad for access. Although not really hard, it is a fair amount of work.
However, Last year at the Gathering, we had a trip to Gordon Kilebrew's place and I got some time to talk to him about this same issue. He showed me how he removed the DIC, then using a dremel tool or small saw, carefully cut out the plastic behind the DIC. It is not a structural piece and will not cause any problems. Through this hole you car reach in and remove the PKE module. It is held in place with velcro. I hope this helps, good luck.

I removed my DIC and saw two black boxes behind it. Cutting the plastic shouldn't be a problem, but which box is it. The small one on top or the bigger one on the bottom?
