Except the motor of course!!!

I can't remember how long I dinked around with that BS on mine. Adjusting the TB open, getting the counts to 15, reprogramming, etc... I did monkey with it alot though. Most of the issue was corrected as described above. Another thing I did was lower the IAC starting position -- so it didn't rev so high at start-up.

There's also the IAC position by temp table. The IAC slope gain and IAC follower parms were something I tried alterations on.

For the most part, I finally accepted that float was probably their before the build. But, now I paid more attention to it. Either that was true and I got used to it...or the ECM took awhile to relearn IAC programming. That's because it all seems normal again even tho I was obsessed about it for awhile.

By normal now, I mean it still floats some. As I learned: rpms, speed, and gear factor into the exact amount of IAC follower at any given time. For example, if I'm in 6th at 1400 on the hwy, coming out of gear will drop pretty darn fast. If in 4th on the hwy, the IAC takes more time to drop to idle. It's supposed to be that way. The IAC is supposed to follow the throttle position -- for dashpot function.

I noticed the ARAP bin has a different IAC slope than AYPY. That's how I got the idea (and realized) that's probably how fast the IAC drops as the TB closes.

SUCCESS:

After following the instructions in the article at the following website,
http://www.docstoc.com/docs/25331704...-thru-1992-Not, I finally have the slow idle return problem fixed.
As good as the FSM is it doesn't have the steps for the IAC pintle reset and that is what I have been missing this whole time.

I remember reading that in the FSM before so it was in the FSM. In fact, you don't need the Autozone tool when you can use a paperclip like you are retrieving codes.

HOWEVER, the procedure will not work when your combination calls for a different idle. That is set to the GM spec but when you have different injectors, cams or heads that call for a different base idle speed, there is the problem.
