Where do you feel the shake coming from? You could have lost a wheel weight, especially if it was a stick on type, it could have fallen off.

Mine used to shake like crazy too. I had new rims and new tires but that didn't help. I had the driveshaft balanced and u-joints replaced and that fixed most of the vibration. I was also getting a knocking sound from my steering wheel, and the dealer replaced the steering rack and the inner tie-rods and now the vibration is gone. Good luck.

Re: Vibration From 50 MPH plus (YellowC4)
I feel your pain! My '88 has the exact same ailment. Everything I've done helped a little, but the vibration lives on. Now it is most pronounced at 80 MPH.
1) Replaced all 4 wheel bearing hubs ($700 for parts)
2) Four new tires installed and balanced ($700 for 275 ZR40-17 Futuras)
3) Drive shaft fully serviced: balanced, straightened, new Spicer U-joints ($160).
The vibration continues. :mad
I guess I'll replace all four rotors since they're original. I'll just keep throwing money at it until it stops doing it. :cry

Re: Vibration From 50 MPH plus (YellowC4)
I didn't change the u-joints myself. I took the old drive shaft to a place that specializes in drive shafts and asked them to replace the u-joints, straighten the shaft (if necessary) and balance. They supposedly spin it on a machine at 3,300 RPM to verify balance. They kept my drive shaft for 24 hours and charged around $160. When I got it back, it looked brand new. Somehow they polished it to a high shine.
If you are going to tackle the u-joints on your own you will need a press or a very strong vise to get the old u-joints out and the new ones in. A long time ago I bought some u-joints at Pep Boys (for a different car) and the mechanic did the swap. I already had the drive shaft out of the car.
