Extended Mobility Tires
My 1995 Coupe has a RPO Code WY5. I think this is the code for the extended mobility tire option. The ride is so rough that the car is hard to control on poor interstate roads. If a payment bump is hit when accelerating the car will actually break loose. Is the best approach to replace the extended mobility tires with standard radials or is there a different shock option?

If your car still has the tires installed by the factory, I wouldn't go over 50 mph with those. They gotta be verrrrry hard by now, and cracked.
Todays's tire manufacturers make some pretty awsome tires that give you literally hundreds of choices for tires.
For softness, look at Falkens or Nitto or General or Michelin. There are about 20 more manufacurer names to choose, but EMT tires are not the way to go with a C4 stiff suspension.
You should still have the factory spare under the butt of your car. If it's still there, don't buy EMT's

- i picked up a low mileage 96 several months ago. with only 26K on the clock, the car still had the original EMT's. they were as hard as rocks. since i drive my car all over the place and in all kinds of weather i went with michelin pilot sport A/S radials - non run-flat. as far as i concerned, a great tire - a little pricey, but this is one area where i think you get what you pay for - 
another tire i've had on some of my other corvettes is the firestone wide-oval's - medium priced tire and a fairly good, everyday street tire.

I am due for tires on my new beast. It has the AFR wheels with 17x11 on the back. SO I need 285 front and 315 rears. I have been thinking Sumitomos based on reviews. I like the BFG's on it now but I can't seem to find them anywhere?

UJ6 - low pressure warning indicator and
WY5 - extended mobility tires
...and my 96 coupe does have a compact spare. N84, spare tire delete, was a $100 credit option. i'm thinking the same options were available in 1995. to verify your configuration, reference your RPO sticker.

Mine has the spare delete option. Can I add the spare tire hardware as a bolt in? Based on how this rides I'm thinking I should go to qa standard radial tires to improve the ride.

Another thing to consider in regaurds to the poor handling under acceleration is worn rotted bushings. Mine looked fine as installed, apon removing the rear componets they all fell apart and i was suprised i ever managed to travle a straight line

EMT's gone....
I recently replaced my EMT's on my 1995 coupe and I feel as if I have a new car!!!! The tires I purchased are the Michelin Pilot Sport. They have been simply GREAT and I would highly recommend them to anyone thinking of making a change.

Do you have the spare tire delete option? I'm trying to understand what undercar hardware is needed for a spare tire carrier.

I'd go with regular tires and not worry about the spare. The 17" spare tire size hasn't been available since about 2000 anyway, so the spare tire is going to be of questionable value anyways.
If your tires are original, that is why they ride and drive like crap moreso than that they are runflats. They must be hard as a rock after 16+ years.
I don't think any runflats fit your car other than GS-C's, and that seems so absurd to pay good money for such old tire tech. You could just get regular tires, throw an electric air pump in the trunk, and that's that.
