Nobody has found a real performance gain from it, not over an open lid and K&N. But i'm gonna buy one anyway. Seems like it should help, even if nobody has found anything from it.
If you mean the one that sucks ait form the bottom with a scoop, they yea. I have had it for a while and at high speeds (60+) it DOES help... BUT.....It makes your car rrun (a tleast my car) about 10-15F hotter throughout..
So you better add a manual switch fo rthe fan(s). I have a booster fan in front of the radiator too. In heat and humidity the car runs about 200F on teh highway. I took the scoop off and put the open lid filter on, and now I run about 190F on the highway. I can feel the difference though when I do a 60-120Mph run.. the car seems to accelerate a bit slower...
It is a quality piece with good instructions. I would say expect about a consistent 5hp gain over K&N with open lid (i.e. 0.5mph at the traps). As mentioned, you'll get that gain in the last 1/8mi or above sasy 60mph.
If you don't have a K&N yet you'll save about $40 since one comes with the kit.
My engine runs about 175deg highway on a 90+day and a 160 deg stat and fan sw. I didn't have the opportunity to check it out in hot weather between the time I installed the 160 deg stat/sw and the time the SLP went in. However, in cooler weather, 70s or less, she runs at 155deg F on the highway.
Before you install the unit, enlarge the "scoop" opening another inch or so; you'll see what I mean.
