I have a '94 coupe with a hatchback that seems very solid when I press on it from the outside but rattles like crazy whenever I drive over the slightest bump. The noise is coming from the latch mechanism.
Is there a simple adjustment/home fix I can try????
Mine has some rubber on the latching hook. Does yours?
Hatch struts are snug (keeping pressure on glass)? If these lose their charge, they could cause noise.
I had quite a bit of noise from the trim around the back in cool weather. I used strategically placed electrical tape loops under the trim to cushion things and eliminate the rattles.
I had the same problem. It became especially noticeable after I stuck the 3" B&B Triflo on there. The resonator made it rattle like crazy in 4th gear. The problem is the plastic manual release handle. It's just pressed on, so it's no surprise that it likes to come loose over time. Just pull it off, cover the end of the plastic mount that the handle pushes onto with a strip of electrical tape or butyl tape, and then push the handle back on. The idea is to use the vinyl or rubber tape to create a buffer between the two plastic mating surfaces that absorbs vibration and creates a tighter fit. Boom. No more rattle..
