Hi all I read on the AFR site that they recommend a fel-pro 1404 gasket for the exhaust. This is a square port gasket. I had ordered a copper gasket that was 1.5 which is what had been recommended but it's round and not square. Is this going to be a problem? The headers are round but the exhaust port is square. Should I return them and see if Summit sells a squarish copper gasket?
I'll give them a call and see what they can do for me. I read where people were using the 1 3/4" headers but I cannot find a listing of those for our cars. Most have them listed for a bigger motor and i would like to make sure that they will fit and clear everything.
back in the day, they made a shim for headers that had a square hole on one side and a round hole on the other, you could reverse them as needed, they were bout 1/4" thick and were a pita to get to seal up. one of the auto makers put something similar on one of their engines out of the factory, its been 35 40 years though, do youself a favor and buy the right parts. there's no subsitute for doing things right the first time
Upon further review I'm just being foolish. I was looking at the intake side. After looking at the other side I'm less worried now. I will buy a larger header and better gasket.
