Default [Tear Down Update 10]: We've got Intake!!

Heheheheh.... Ok today's list of dones.

1. Installed Comp Cam Pro Magnum Roller Rockers on Passenger Side & Adjusted All Rockers
2. Removed #7 Rockers in order to install forgotten washer on head bolt between them.
3. Installed Intake Manifold
4. Removed Cold Start Valve Provisions from Fuel Rail

For 65Z01 as requested, Fel-Pro 1204 Intake Gasket against manifold.

RTV Along front of block

RTV Along rear of block

Block with RTV

Gaskets in place w/RTV around water jackets.

Intake on and torqued down in sequence to 35 ft/lb in 5 steps of "snug", 20, 25, 30, 35 ft/lbs.

Test fitting the 2nd valve cover in place. Cleared rockers w/o a problem!

looks very fimaliar....make sure to retorque the head gaskets after the 1st heat cycle foe some peace of mind.
Even with the fel-pro perma-torques? I've also got ARP bolts & washers on it. Ok, that'll suck pulling all the rockers off again. :D :D Oh well.

That looks great and the intake looks HUGE in the ports.
Btw does that intake have a rear water jacket crossover like the stockers do? Or is it blocked off?
Just wondering.Keep up the good work.
:)

Scorp, you da man! Thanks much for those very informative pics.

Those 1204s aren's quite the same as the set that came with my FelPro TopEnd set. Mine have blockoffs over each rear water passage, as did the stock gasket. Vic'89 was just over and said that his 1204s were open back there too.

Anyway, it is interesting to see how you applied that RTV (I assume Black RTV), thanks again.

I don't think you will have to re-torque. I’ve been using them for years and never re-torque. I have disassembled motors that I put them on and all of the bolts were real tight, even after years of hard use.

Same here.. I am running the Felpro 1010 gaskets.. no retorquing and no leaking

65Z01 I also have my Intake for my 87 and the block offs were on the back two water Jackets Scorp those middle ports are for the EGR valve. I don't think your suppose to block them off then the EGR valve is useless.

John G 92, while I was discussing the water jacket blockoff issue with Vic'89 neither of us could figure out why it's sometimes blocked with only small "vent" holes (as is my set) and other times it's full open (as his and Scorp's sets). Hmm.

Also, the '87 Corvette intake base sitting on my desk has an EGR hole in the right side but the head is blocked on both sides.

The F-body LB9 with iron heads (and their L98 too) has the internal EGR passage from the heads. Whereas our L98s use the external pipe into the base. I just checked my '86 IROC and the intake base has no provision for external EGR entry.

Looks like FelPro may use the same gasket for all three applications, though that water passage issue is still a puzzle.

I would love to, but I can't. I held the runners up to the intake to make sure I had clearance with the intake bolts to install them. The engine is tipped back too far from no tranny so that the runners can't be held in place because of the wiper motor right now. I'll have to jack the engine back up level to install it and drop it down a little bit to put the tranny back. :)
