Pinion Depth Gauge recommendation
Does anyone have a recommendation for a pinion depth gauge. As far as a brand or what unit you have used to setup a D44.
I know you can spend quite a bit of money on some of the tools I have seen. Any recommendation would be appreciated.
I have most of the other tools pullers, press, ect. I have to pick up a inch pound dial torque wrench.
This will be my first install. I know it would be cheaper to bring it to a good gear shop and have them install them but I would like to learn how to do it. I figure the only way to learn is to give it a try.
As always thanks guys, Walt.
Need to make sure there are no burrs anywhere on the housing cap parting surfaces.
Need steady hands.
Read the directions supplied with carefully.
Have to calibrate supplied pinion depth gauge with standards provided.
True housing parting line can be above or below cut & machined bearing sufrace on any given differential housing.
Not the easiest of pinion depth gauges to use.
But gives accurate results with lots of practice.
Works on any rearend housing besides a semi truck Rockwell/ Eaton.
The easiest & very 1st time repeatable pinion depth gauges are very expensive.
$500 to $2K in USA funds.
Snap On for an inch pound torque wrench works.
0 - 50 inch/ lbs required.

I am definitely going to take my time and be patient. This is something I have wanted to learn for a while. I use to be a machinest by trade. Hopefully this will help considering I may be a bit rusty.
Thanks again, Walt.
