Default 1995 Code H44

In order to begin investigating an occassional ping I pulled the codes and got an H44. I understand left O2 lean condition. I have only heard the pinging a couple times after driving pretty hard and then coming to a stop either sign or rest stop and then light throttle. Usually after it does it I can't duplicate when I try of course.

Car just turned 41,000 miles and sat most of its life in the previous owners garage the last 7 years, something like 3000 miles in 7 years after he got it from the original owner. I have put about 1,000 miles on since I got it in June.

The car has a cut air lid, bored throttle body of unknown origin, shorty headers and Corsa. All I know from previous guy is "it was richened up" after the mods were done years ago around 2004 by Corvette Master tech at dealer that no longer exists.

I am thinking I will have no choice but to buy some software to see what my starting point is before I throw parts at it??

As I understand it I need the 16 pin interface cable and one of the various software packages. Will they work with my current Laptop which runs Windows 7 (32bit).

I was thinking of trying some easy things like fuel filter, EGR perhaps. The plugs look like new to me, it has new wires and all around otherwise in good shape. I notice it does have an MSD coil, previous experience has told me OEM may be better? Do 02 sensors suffer from sitting so much and not being driven? I have run a bunch of techron through as well.

I am all ears for other suggestions as well but at this point figure software may be in order. I am thinking TTs datamaster with the 20 free scans.

I have ordered the AKM cable to plug into my laptop USB style (understand not as good, but it's what I have). I have downloaded the datamaster. I have done a lot of reading and looking forward to learning about this. Actually the stuff that confuses me the most is not the auto stuff, but reading about assigning the com port and drivers, IE the actual computer issues.

Help me understand when this first arrives do I need to do anything or should I see if my computer is set up, plug it in and see if it communicates? The last car I used a scanner on was a 1995 Mercedes, oh boy what a mess that car was anything has to be easier.
