I was looking at mine last night and thought it might look cool with no windshield and the glass hatch removed apart from maybe a wee wraparound screen like what I seen on C2 Stingray racecars. Googled this but nothing found..
Is the C4's windshield frame a major structural component of the car or is rigidity mainly handled via the halo?

Every body part of the C4 Coupe & Convertible Models are a major structural part of the car.
You are going the wrong direction to go faster removing all.
HOTROD took an abandoned 1985 C4 in the California Desert & chopped it down to the bare frame & drivers seat.
Looked like Chit.
Did not run terrific faster afterwards.
People have taken L98 C4's into the 11's.
GM TPI in place.
Knew what they were doing.
Ex Super Stock Racers they had to be.
You Need knowledge learned & applied to your car.
Some $$ too.
Well, I got to start somewhere.. So lightening the beast is an obvious choice. Maybe later next year when its drier and our new local motorsport complex is finished, I might get a bit more adventurous with the motor.
I like speed but would still want some type of roll bar. Taking the windshield/halo out would make it lighter and good for drag racing but make the chassis flex quiet a lot, bad for handling.
That car looks pretty good, maybe buy a run down version to chop up. Then you can keep your daily driver nice.
Always fancied the C4 sans windshield with a wraparound screen kinda like Steve MacQueen's Manx dune buggy in the 'Thomas Crown Affair'... Seen a few C2 Stingrays racing at the Silverstone Classic here with just that. They totally ROCK!!
..to quote Sheldon Cooper,
"..anythings possible these days, ..given enough startup capital and facilities, ..I could be Batman!!"
this is in the for sale section, frame may provide some support, but with out the targa and halo tied in doesnt seem like much. could probably put a roll cage in and get better rigidity
I reckon that windshield frame could go with maybe an extra stiffener along the dash, but the halo gets to stay... This is my inspiration, the ultimate Corvette...
Has anyone ever seen the Sky tv prog with Alain De Cadanet called 'Victory By Design'? The history of the Corvette? Certainly hope so!!

There isn't much you can remove without some modification by someone who is VERY good with this kind of thing. Not for the amateur or light of heart.
I think it's doable. You would have to weld in a skeleton frame where the door is supposed to be. That, and do some general frame stiffening across the board just to be safe and keep the body flex down. Then the doors would be useless, so you could probably just make it a smooth body and forget the doors completely. Smooth out the door handle and join the door with the rest of the body to make it one piece.
You know what, the more I think about this in my head, the more I like it.....
