I think the original shocks on my '94 are worn out. It has 60000 miles with the base suspension. I can feel every bump on city streets and on the highway it tends to float. Just the opposite of what I would like. Are they worth rebuilding, what is the cost, what is the turn around time, and can the y be revalved?
Yes they can be revalved, I just had mine done and they are amazing!! I don't remember the cost, I really didn't lok at the receipt, I'll see if I can find it. The turn around time was bout 1-2 weeks, not bad at all really. What kind of driving are you looking to do? What suspension package is on the car now?
Zix: I am interested in learning more about what you had done to the shocks. Price? Was it worth the cost? I have searched the Bilstein web site and could not find information on rebuilding. My 89 baby rides very rough. Thanks in advance. Sam :chevy

Well, I'm not 100% sure of the cost right now, never looked at the receipt...and I'm up in Boston now...I'll look at my credit card and find the charge. I am almost certain it would be cheaper then buying new shocks. And yes, it was definatly worth it, I had them revalved to custom specs and they are just incredible!
Vettebrakes has brand new Bilsteins for $69 dollars each... if your going with standard or Z51 valving, hardly seems worth the cost of having them rebuilt.
OK, I have to ask the stupid, maybe obvious question:
What's the reason to stay with the Bilsteins? Are they that much better than any other shock? I'm in the market for some and I like that the concensus seems to be replace with Bilsteins. It's been a long time since I've owned a RWD vehicle, and I love how simple it is to replace shocks on these! $69 doesn't sound bad, but like I said, it's been awhile since I've shopped for shocks. Is this a good price?
One last question - where do I find Vettebrakes? Thanks for any feedback!
I use my '94 as a fair weather daily driver, so I'm looking for a good ride without sacrificing much handling. That's why i asked about revalving. It has the base suspension and original shocks. The edlebrock shocks sound about right but are pretty expensive.

I had the base suspension on mine and wanted something firmer, without going to full Z-51 suspension so I had them revalved. With my bigger sway bars and heim joints the revalved shocks are a perfect combination...firm but not harsh.
