My brakes seem to be functioning just fine, but when I back out of a parking spot, the squeal and squeak. No sound in forward, only in reverse...and of course that's always slow.
I've been fighting this exact noise for the last year. Replaced all 6 u-joints and new brakes on all 4. That didn't fix it. When I had the driveline off, I rotated the rear wheels foward and reverse, no noise. Installed the driveline and the noise was back. Figured it has to be coming from the rear of the transmission and telegraphing back to the rear end. That's as far as I got. I think it might be a dry rear seal on the tail shaft. Only a guess tho. And yes, it would have been smart to replace it when the driveline was out. :smash:
Mine is definitely brakes...if I apply more brakes it will stop, unfortunately so will the car. If I don't brake at all, the noise stops. So, I'm confident it's brakes, it just seems odd that it does it only in reverse.
