Default ECU Swap ?

Thinking to put an ECU from a 95, into a '93, so I can program it with a hypertech, instead of having to burn chips.

But, I recall reading somewhere a couple years ago that its not an easy thing to do and I remember concluding that I'm just better off selling the 93 instead of fussing with it, and get a 94 or later C4.

Is my memory correct, that its more trouble than its worth ? Or is an ECU swap a do-able thing for a person of intermediate skill ?

thanks,

Chris

I'm not sure of the specifics on the swap. But, if all you want to do is flash a Hypertech program, it isn't worth the effort or cost even if the Hypertech is free.

Quite a few differences, 93 is speed density, 94 and up is MAF and also sequential instead of batch fire injection. At the very least you would also need the newer engine wiring harness. I have no idea how the late PCM would interface with the CCM in the 93.

Prob true, I wish it could just be plug and play but I seem to recall maybe needing a new wiring harness, but not sure I remember correctly. I haven't done anything to it, other than Mezeire, higher leverage ratio roller rockers, John's injectors, and opened up the incoming box. Got an awesome set of heads I made though, just too lazy to take apart a good-running engine for now but when the time comes I'll do the cam as well. Just that, after all that, I'll need to re-program and I don't wanna spend oodles of time learning how to burn chips or paying someone, cuz the time factor - cars worth about $10k maybe and even after all that, it'd still be worth the same. I know putting a $$ value on it isn't really accurate b/c I enjoy it more than any $$ amount, but it is a consideration anyhow.

A hypertech programmer won't help tune a modified engine. Why don't you do some research on burning chips and doing your own tuning? Once you get into the tuning, it can be as fun as parts swapping, and not so back breaking.

You could convert to a piggyback chip from moates.com.

My 86 has this package which works fine for over 6 years.

IIRC a few folks have looked at it. You would have to rip out all the wiring and put in a 95 harness and get the CCM from a 95, and probably a BCM.

Best bet is something like the Moates stuff, or run a different computer for the fuel/ignition timing. I think I saw a post recently where someone was going to use XFI.

Upgraded to the Moates ostrich and the Tunercat RT tuner for you tuning.

I think it will be cheaper and easier than a 95 PCM upgrade.

I did not know that. Thought all the LT1's were sequential fire FI.
