Default Clutch reservior cap problem & solution(s)

I had noticed that my reservoir cap gasket was expanded when I added fluid a few years back.
Well, obviously there a leak somewhere(I'll have to get to it, but that is not what the post is about) because I had to add more today.
I also revisited my reservoir gasket "problem". I cannot tell for sure that the gasket was ever "folded" like most brake and clutch gaskets are because it may have been expanded for so long that any signs of the original creases are gone. I searched the forums with mixed results.
The factory drawings suggest that the gasket should be folded, but the drawings do not specifically show the gasket or that it should be folded, while the factory drawings do show the brake master cylinder cap gasket, which is folded.

I found that Dorman Part # 42072 master cylinder gasket (GM) is almost the correct size and with minor trimming with an exacto knife, would fit perfect. However, before I installed it, I discovered that I could, with patience, fold up the factory gasket and make it work.

This is all just FYI.

The stock boot is not designed to fold, nor is it supposed to. It drops right into the clutch master cylinder cup. Your stock boot was perfectly fine.

Well, that motivated me to at least look around. I looked up my old 1996 WS6 to see what that used for a gasket.

Similar in the way it displaces the fluid, but it is convoluted to allow for more give as the fluid travels in the system. It definitely looks more like I would expect for a reservoir gasket.

I do concur that the stock bladder never folded, after looking at this WS6 version.

I completely forgot to check out the displacement difference, however. I think they would be pretty close and I do know the caps are interchangeable.

You are also correct about the clutch system being VERY forgiving, my reservoir was bone dry and the clutch still disengaged, but I could tell something was wrong because the transmission was feeling really "notchy".

I'll have to finish repairing it one of these days, probably not this year, tho.
