How do the 95-present Z's compete with the L98 , I have a friend with a 95 Z that says he will out run my 86 all day , because of the simple fact that he has more hp. I've riding in his car and it doesn't seem like I would have any problem keeping up/beating him. Just want to one If I have chance
I am not sure the numbers of the Z28 but your car should run 0-60 5.9 and 1/4 in about 14.1, i bet he will pull you when you get out of the lower RPM's but run him and find out I geuss :yesnod: :smash:
when i had nothing more than a Flowmaster cat-back, open filter lid with a K&N, and a AFPR i ran a best of 13.69 at 100mph. this was with a 1.9 60ft. LT1 fbodies typically run mid-low 14s with an average driver. its all in the launch. if he constantly talks trash on you and other cars, hes probably the type to just mash the throttle when starting a race, thus spinning his tires and killing his E/T. if you launch correctly, you should beat him with your setup
A LT1 Z-28 6-spd is capable of 13.6's or better in the hands of a good driver. It is really no different than an LT1 Vette, more restrictive intake and more restrictive exhaust are the only performance differences.
Most L98 cars I see run mid 14's, some run 14 flat. A very few run high 13's. Where as an LT1 F-body can easily see 13's.
You'll probably take him at the light, but he'll pull on you by the end of the track.
First off lets seperate the "late" F-body cars there is LT1 and LS1. The LT1 f-body cars run in the high 13 low 14 window stock. They tell me in here a stock L98 is about the same.If i remember correctly F-body LT1 had 275 horses vs 245 in the vette and torque was even closer then theres weight, aerodynamics, gears, traction, weight transfer, etc. Even $ for $ in mods the cars seem to stay about equal. NOW we have LS1. I know there was just a post about this but LS1 is faster stock and much faster modified (with equal drivers).
:chevy
I have a flowmaster cat-back exhaust and an open lid air intake with a k&N that should help me keep up with him in the higher RPMs
umm, no it wont
He will take you over 100 for sure. LT1s make their power higher in the band, while you may take him off the line because of the torque, after 60mph its a different story. L98 intake cant flow the air you need.
this is assuming hes not a good driver, if he is, youll lose badly
The LT1 f-body cars run in the high 13 low 14 window stock.
A friend of mine has a 95 Z-28 with well over 100k miles on it, completely stock but ragged out. The inside of the motor is NASTY. It also has a slipping clutch. In the hands of a good driver it was able to make a 13.90 @ 98
If the motor was up to par and the clutch was good this would easily be a 13.7, maybe 13.6 car. Most stock LT1 F-bodies have a MPH around 102 in the quarter. Even the auto's can get 13.9's pretty consistently.
Basically you have to have something wrong or you can't drive if you turn one of these into a 14 second car. I love my Corvette and I wouldn't trade it for an F-body, but the performance difference is not what everybody around here likes to make it out ot be. Trust me, I'm a member of F-bodies Unlimited, I know what they run, and it's impressive. Now, throw us out on a road course and it's a different story.
IMO Opinion Z28 are a touch faster than L98, but it would still be a good race, with a L98 having the advantage 0-60 & the Z28 coming in at the top end. I have a friend friend run stock Z28, each car seem to run a best of 13.9-14.0. The MPH for auto is 98/99, 6 Speed 100/101.
I believe the Z28 would have the edge by a few 10ths.
You need to find out what mods he has too.
Since you're in Bradenton you can afford to run a 160 deg stat and fan sw for a 10th. Cut back your spark plug ground electordes for another 10th. For under $500, you can get a 2 1/2" front Y with hi-flow cat for copla 10ths. Cut lid with K&N might be worth a 10th. With the exhaust work you may need an AFPR to tune fuel flow at WOT. Delete your spare and jack (replace with a puncture repair kit & cell phone) and run with 1/4 tank of fuel for another 10th or two. Now you've picked up about 0.5sec and should run high 13s in SW FL weather.
If he's stock or very nearly so, that should make it an interesting race.
Then take him to the Bradenton strip and see what he's got.
