My 1984 corvette has trouble starting, I've narrowed it down to the drivers side door plunger. I have to leave the door wide open and play with the plunger while I hold the key forward. sometimes it starts right away and sometimes it takes a half hour. I was wondering if anyone could walk me through how to fix it. Thanks.
Well the starter cranks and the car starts just fine, but only if i move the plunger to that one perfect spot. so it IS the door. I took the plunger off and there are three little wires, I have no idea how this would have anything to do with starting the car but it obviously does.
In my '87 FSM the theft deterrent system schematic shows a starter interupt control terminal on the Theft Deterrent Controller (page 8a-133-0), but it is marked not used. Is it possible this is used in the '84? Maybe someone could take a look in an '84 FSM & report?

Do you have a FSM?
Which plunger are you fiddling with? There are two per door on my '87---one on the door jam and one on the door itself. Neither are directly involved in the starter circuit, but you'll want to be sure if/when you try to buy a replacement.
The car should start, door open or closed. SHOULD. So assuming someone hasn't done some creative engineering...thing shouldn't care what is going on with the door. Why don't you pull the door apart and see what is going on in there, wiring wise?
