I am in the process of repairing a blown head gasket on an 87 L98 engine. While I have everything apart, I am going through and cleaning and replacing various items.
I would like to replace ALL of the relatively inexpensive senders and sensors that are more accessible now that everything is apart.
I have searched and tried to find a set of photos showing every sensor in the engine bay that would attach to or hang off of the engine, but am coming up short.
Does anyone know of such a post, or a set of photos with the various sendors and sensors circled for easy ID.
Yes, I do have an 87 service manual as well, but really am looking for more than a drawing that just shows approximate locations.
I have relocated many of my sensors and signal devices just for convenience. I tend to add wire and move things toward the battery to mount somehow. The oil sendernow lives just over the booster.MY EGR solenoid is on the back bolt in the bracket on the air pump...Temp sensors are extended out so that they can be seen and serviced. Did that thru brass tube extensions.
Many more to go.
The picture appears to be of the one wire switch AND a two-wire switch, both connected with a metal device connected to the rear top of the engine block.
Do I buy BOTH the one wire and two wire switches separately, and then unscrew the old ones from that metal fitting, and reinstall with the new ones?
I haven't gotten to actually look at the old one yet...
The oil pressure sender with one wire goes to the instrument panel to show oil pressure.
The oil pressure switch with two wires is the backup for the fuel pump relay. It is connected in parallel with the fuel pump relay so you'll have fuel pressure if the relay doesn't work for some reason.
