Fuel?
The original problem was a flat cam and lifters--suspicion of spun cam bearing, as no oil on driver side head which turned out to not be so.
Upon starting the car it would run till it got warm and then would shut off...and not restart do to lack of fuel. I replaced the FP with new A/C Delco pump and Screen; new FP relay. The old one had discolored blades and a new Wix fuel filter. We drove it about 40 miles to dinner. It sat for about two hours and we came out and it started fine. We got home and I went out to move it in the garage and the same old problem was there. Cranked o.k. but acted like it was not getting enough fuel to start. I am disabled so I didn't get down to check the relay and haven't as of yet (two weeks). It sat overnight and started fine the next morning, though it did roll black smoke like it had too much fuel. The only thing I can think of it the FP regulator. As it is I'm afraid to get it out of town. AAA is sick of the car it has ben brought home so many times. The car did sit those two years, but the tank was drained and fresh fuel put in when came time to start the new rebuild.: corvettemaniac 60
Did you fit new injectors? are they not shutting off?
Check your fuel pressure, start your vette and shut it down.
Note your pressure while running and monitor the pressure for at least 10 minutes after engine shut down , check for any pressure drop.

Disconnect the vacuum line to the FP regulator. If there is fuel in there, that is bad. It would also explain the black smoke when you started it. Fuel pressure bled into the intake and then blasted into the pistons causing SUPER rich start-up.
If the fuel pressure drops rapidly (more than a pound an hour or so) and there is no fuel in your FP regulator, then you are looking specifically at the injectors.
