I have a 94 LT1 6spd and wanna know what the transmission is called. Is it the same as in the LS1? How much power can one put through a STOCK 6spd like mine without breaking anything, like how fast can I go before I have to mod my tranny? How much stronger is the ZR-1's tranny than mine also?
The ZR1 trans will not swap the input shaft is not the same however I believe the ZR1 and and L98/LT1 are rated for the same power levels. ZFs have survived 10 sec passes usually the clutch has to be uprgaded. The 6 speed in all C4s is a ZF S6-40. F-bodies, C5s, and Vipers have a T56. http://www.zfdoc.com/ has more info on the ZF.
Yes SLP did convert some Firebirds to a Firehawk and swapped in a ZF. They also sold a kit to swap the ZF in. The cars did keep a modified TPI motor with an intake manifold of SLP's on design a T-ram. Very fast cars indeed. A local has a green 92 Firehawk with a ZF very  http://www.dapa.org/memride/cgebhardt/1992firehawk.htm
i think the zf is 400 or 450, but keep in mind thats a 450ft-lbs shock with zero clutch slip and no wheel spin. The trannies can survive alot more, look at the twin turbo lingelfelter 427 vette, its trannies rated to 450 but it puts out 650ft-lbs
