I would like them to explain how it got to 8000 RPM when the rev limiter is before that.
Scorp are you sure about the rev limiter? my FACTORY STOCK PROm in my 89 was set to like 10K rpm.. same with the FACTORY STOCK 1991 and 1990 PROMs I have. these are untouched. I bought them new from GM and read them into my PC. Not sure on the LT1 cars.. but it is possible
It is also possible the mechanic fudged the numbers to make it sound worse.. considering the Stock 94 Tach only goes to 6K
I know about the L98s limiters basically not being set from the factory, but I'm like 90% positive the LT1s get something like a 6300 cutoff. I could be wrong.

Could very well be.. I still think the Tech fudged the actual #.. since the 94 tach only goes to 6K
I think you should pass on that particular car; I personally would not be comfortable buying it. In my humble opinion, you would be better off looking to private sellers in your local classified ads and/or on line, it may take a while but you can find a quality Corvette at a fair price.
I will give you the sage advice that I was given when I was searching for my Corvette; look at more than one Corvette before making a purchase, if possible look at the cars you are interested in more than one time and after you decide on a specific Corvette, take it to a reputable and nonpartisan mechanic for an inspection.
Corvette Forum has a Corvette's for sale section, in fact I bought my Corvette from a fellow Forum member and I could not be happier with the price or quality.
I'm still waiting for the General Manager to return my call--the salesman was quoting the mech's comments of 8K. Whether it's 5, 6 or 8K doesn't matter to me, it ain't right!. But what's that servo and/or the box thingy around it/in the way got to do w/anything?

That servo is for Cruise.. ny guess is it is stuck in accel mode.. I would pass on the car too.. keep looking
There are endless C4s out there. Make sure you get the right one. I am sure the wife would approve of a good decision here even if it takes an extra week or two. Good luck!
BTW you can have my 95 triple black auto with 80k miles for $20k :D
Think yall are right, keep looking.
BTW: What this was, was a '94 conv., 52K miles, $19K. Was a good deal, til the cruise thing happened. For what it's worth, I need a ragtop or nothing, less than $20K
Heres my .02. You have an excellent excuse to get your money back from Carmax. DO IT! This is not the last vette in the world, and Carmax is notoriously high with there prices. You could find a well-maintained vette from a private party or go the dealer route. If you insist on this car, I would bite the bullet and get the warranty. I then would take the car home and park it on the street, go get my garden hose and spray the optispark. Now that your car won't start I would call back Carmax and let them replace your opti. Now you have your grand back... :blueangel:
