Default Cold Engine Idleing

My 1992 LT1 will not idle cold. Strong smell of gasoline, very low idle rpm after warm up. Does anyone have any experience with this problem.
Otherwise performance ok.

Pull codes first. You may get some guidance that way.

Coolant Temp controls fuel delivery and idle speed, so look at your Digital Readout and make sure it matches ambient air temp before you start it - or hook up a Scanner so you can see the Coolant Temp Sensor signal. After it's started, there should be a linear rise in temp to the thermostat and when that opens, it will fall back a few degrees before rising to the threshold for fan operation. When the fan comes on, the temp should drop and then stabilize. The important thing is that it matches or is close to air temp when you start it followed by a linear rise for fan operation. If it doesn't match, or if it's jumping around, fuel delivery and idle will be off. There are no Codes for a skewed or mucked up Sensor (though sometimes it's the ECM for which there won't be a Code either), so garbage in means you get garbage out. The trouble codes for this Device are simply for an open or shorted circuit and either condition puts it on backup which would retain some driveability - which it doesn't sound like you got.

I recently replaced a blown heater hose. Digital temp readout ok. I probably botched up the coolant temp sensor somehow. Thanks for the advice!!!
