Valve cover bolts
I'm getting new valve covers in the mail(hopefully tomorrow) and was looking at the bolts used to secure them today. I'll be using perimeter bolt valve covers with a larger cork gasket. My question revolves around the little metal strips they sell right next to the bolts which I assume is to spread out the force of the bolt along the edge of the valve cover. My question is are these a worthwhile purchase? My Dad says that most of the sealing will be done by the gasket and I shouldn't need them.
So if they work and people say they help keep things from leaking I'll get some, but if they are a waste of money I'll spend it buying more McRib's.
