I have some faded spots and want a repaint, same color, and oem quality, not looking for a show finish. Anyone had something similiar done, and what did it run you? The finish on there is the base coat clear coat, correct? Thanks, Dan
Cost me $2850, which included some repair on rusted sections of the hood hinge area. I had the whole car stripped completely, mirrors, taillights and door handles removed, headlight buckets disassembled, and the car shot with base/clear coat. You can read your watch in it. Don't get a cheap paint job, you won't be happy with it. Talk with some other Corvette owners in your area and look at their cars. Also check with car clubs. I bet they can steer you towards a good shop that won't rape you.
I have a good shop in mind, I guess I am just reluctant in getting it painted for fear of those morons who love to key new cars or cars with new paint :mad
I agree....stay away from cheap paint jobs like maaco and earl s too.
A paint job really depends.Ive been quoted between 1300-6,000 depending on the shop for a repaint.
Many times, they can sand your existing paint down some, put epoxy primer down and repaint over it.Those are usualy under 2 grand.
Some shops will scuff the paint down and just repaint over it,but not sure how long that will last.
Some may want to sand the entire car down and re do the paint that way. However,Most shops today will prefer to sand down the car some and prime/paint over instead of sanding it all down.Thats a ton of work and man hours involved and most shops deal with volume of getting the cars out as fast as they can.
If you want to learn ALOT more, come to this autobody site and ask questions and read it alot.Even though its mainly for people who paint cars themselves, youll learn alot more about the things involved.

You've heard the saying "location, location, location"? I have yet to get a quote for a decent (OEM quality) paint job for less than $4,000  in the Washington metro area.
I was looking to get my 90 Camaro repainted. Most of cost was prep work. No rust or body damage, just sanding, trim removal and masking.
Re: New paint, what will it cost?? (Bill's86Coupe)
Some shops will scuff the paint down and just repaint over it,but not sure how long that will last.
It will last just as long as a completely sanded finish will. On metal cars, it is preferred to "scuff and shoot" because the factory primer is electrically etched onto the metal. You'll never be able to duplicate this type of primer.
