Default Need to replace my antenna

I have a 1990, went to a car wash today and forgot to put the antenna down (on the phone). Of course it broke, I have a replacement antenna. How does one go about replacing it?

Just make sure all of the ribbon is out before trying to stick the new one in.

Good luck!

Get the new mast kit with the mast nut tool. The mast nut is round with two little dimples. The mast nut tool has two 'warts' that line up with the dimples and then unscrew the nut. Have someone turn on the radio so the mast is trying to extend while you pull it up and all the way out. Take the little sleeve off the old mast and put it on the new one. Feed the new mast/ribbon in while someone turns the radio off so the motor is tring to retract the antenna. Do it with the teeth on the ribbon pointed out towards the side of the car, but you might have to rotate it a bit until the motor/gears grab the ribbon. Just guide the mast in, put the nut on and you are done. Takes 5-10 minutes. If the old ribbon broke though this will not work and you will have to take the motor out and clean out the broken piece of the ribbon.

All from the top and takes 5-10 minutes.

Yep, on a '90 ('88 and later, IIRC) it can all be done from the top.
My '87 was a pain in the butt.

Are you just replacing the mast or is your replacement the whole unit? I replaced the ribbon/mast on my 84 and had to remove the whole unit to repair it, what a pain. As others have stated if your just replacing the mast/ribbon then it can be done from the top on the later years. There is a good write up in the section at the top of the general section in C4. If your replacing the whole unit then I do believe you have to go thru the wheel well..and good luck if replacing the whole unit..
