Default 86 Instrument Cluster

Having a terrible time removing the two connectors to the Instrument Cluster. I've done it before but must have gotten lucky. The manual says there's a metal clip on the backside of the connnectors but there's no room to reach it. I tried prying them with screw drivers like one thread suggested but that just caused part of the connector to break. Any tips?

On the back of the cluster box where the wiring harness goes in, you will notice that there are two blue plastic clips that hold the harness connector in place. I think these blue combs are designed to keep the many LCD dash wires from rubbing on each other & over time shorting out.

The clips just pull out. Once they are removed, you will be better able to disconned the main wiring harness connector.

Thanks. I did pry one of those off the other day and I have no idea where inside the dash it went when it came flying off. Hope they're available for sale somewhere. Anyway, when I'm in a better frame of mind (not so aggravated) I'll give it another try. I've removed the cluster before but never had this much trouble.
