please post the method to repair speedo problem if you resolve it. mine does same when parked. its only done it twice but it looks like its a sign of things to come. thanks , chuck
I have checked the ECM and the CCM---the only code on either one was a "brake fluid Low " code. I even took the CCM out and cleaned pins and connectors. No difference.

You have probably seen this, but just in case, the FSM on p. 8A-82-15 suggests that an erratic digital display without codes set in the CCM could have an open in circuit 150 to terminal A7 of the instrument cluster connector. If your symptoms are intermittent, maybe a loose or poor connection?

I've got the FSMs and have looked at your possibilities but that looked very good --- clean with good connections. The problem isn't erratic -- it is very predictable -- it does it everytime as soon as the vehicle is started.
Today I cleaned the ground connections under the passenger side kick panel --they were very clean but I cleaned them again and rebolted --- started the car -- no change! The speedo problem is still there. Arghhh! Has anyone heard anything about an ungrounded coil causing this problem? I talked to a guy named Killebrew -- he thought the problem was in my ECM (it wasn't) but he also mentioned something about the coil not being grounded properly. Any ideas of what proper grounding for the coil looks like? I forgot to mention that just for good measure I checked my RPO codes to confirm the vehicle has the correct speed sensor -- it does! Back to the drawing board.. I find it interesting that a search on this forum for "speedometer random numbers" gives results that show this problem isn't rare -- a number of people have experienced it -- but from reading the search results -- it has never been solved.

Not to be a pessimist, but... that diagnostic chart I referenced does say that if the tests they suggest don't turn up anything, replace the cluster No idea where that leads, expense- or availability-wise.
