Default Mechanical oil pressure gauge

87 L98 with 140K miles. Oil pressure was 20 or so at idle hot 40 to 50 on highway which I think is OK for an engine with 140K miles. I got the oil changed at Muffler Man and since then when warm pressure at idle and coasting goes down to 0. Under load it is around 35. I thought they probably used crappy 5w30 oil so I changed it myself. I used 15w40 with Fram filter (Fram is all the store had). The results are the same. There is no valve train noise when the pressure is down to 0.

The dash gauge doesn't seem to read the same under identical conditions so I am thinking the sender might be flaky.

My real question is, is there a easier place to attach a mechanical gauge rather than where the stock sender is located (by the distributer). The stock sender location looks like it will be difficult to get to.

Thanks in advance.

Default

Take the oil temp sensor above the oil filter out and use that hole as temp pressure hookup
Will allow direct comparison with dash gauge
