If I'm not mistaken the exhaust pipes on the LT4's are 2.75". With that said wouldn't a good pair of muffler's and an Dr Gas X-Pipe in place of the resonator make for a pretty decent sounding, higher flowing exhaust for alot less money than these cat back systems?
What do you mean by good set of mufflers? You mean Borlas, flowmasters, etc?
Do you care having resonance?
The biggest issue with our vettes is the resonance. Also keep in mind exhaust work is not cheap. You may end up spending just as much for a cat back as you would with a custom exhaust. Well, if you can weld it can be cheaper.
Here is what I did with mine. My 1991 had the Power Effects cat back which cost me $839. I took it off when I traded that vette in. Had it stored in the garage for more than a year. I called PE to find out how much the other half ( resonator section ) for LT1/4 would cost. He said $450 or so. Well, that's too much for me after already spending $839. So I just cut the stock pipes coming out of the resonator and tapped the PE right in. I have band clamps holding it right now until I can some one to weld it even though it will not slide out, there is a very slight hiss(leak). You can't tell unless you put your ear up to it. Worked out great, perfectly aligned. A local shop wanted $250 - $350 to do this for me.

Borla's at about $450 a pair.

Resonance is not a big deal and the x-pipe should help reduce that.

I've been quoted $75 to cut the old mufflers off and weld the new ones on. Dont know about the x-pipe I dont have a quote on that labor price.
