Default Transmission range switch

All,

On a 96' auto tranny, where is the transmission range switch located, and what all does it control ? A picture would be helpful as well

I'm having a hard time locally and online getting info, trying to get my backup lights working.

Background vehicle info: 87 Jeep Wrangler with 96 corvette LT1 w/ matching 4l60e, 96' vette steering column, engine and dash harness, gauges, DIC and headlight switch.

Thanks in advance, Rick

The switch is in the console at the base of the gearshift lever. Open up the console and you will find it. It is the only wire coming out of there other than the wires for the console lights.

What shifter did you use in the swap ?
The stock switch mounted to base of shifter as 383vett notes
has the backup light switch , P/N safety switch
and a P/N input to the ECM all in the one unit.

Most aftermarket shifters have 2 seperate micro switches for safety lockout and backup

Buddy has same style in his 67 Camaro with LT1 swap.
Are looking at how to add the backup light switch without buying the expensive Lokar conversion kit.

GM switch is as per your link
The 2 large terminals are the safety switch
