Ok, have a thread titled cooling issues, was going thru some diagnostics and one suggestion was jumping terminals A and B under dash on my 85' to see if cooling fan would come on, well, did this and heard something happening around throttle body/intake, when i went to start the car afterward, it is like it is bigtime flooded or something, wont stay running, real rough, real smokey, real smelly, its like its flooded and misfiring, please help, it ran like a sewing machine before?
I appreciate that...it was almost as if when I jumped the terminals it started pumping fuel, it was about 11 hrs. b/w jumping term. and cranking second time, if it was flooded the first time, I fiqured it would have resolved itself over night....
Have you tried to start it while holding a little pressure on the gas pedal. There isn't much that can make a noise by the throttle body except the IAC and it could definitely cause your symptoms. Possibly when you jumped the pins you may have inadvertently touched something else and screwed up the ECM's train of thought. I wouldn't know what it could be because it's called ELECTRICALTHEORY for a reason.
Try to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect it and see if that helps.
As stated earlier, try to start while giving it a little gas to open the throttle body.
By default, jumpering the Diagnostic Link pushes the IAC pintle into it's bore which is what you heard. If you disconnect the harness, it would barely idle (assuming it was warmed up) and that's what's referred to as Minimum Idle. To reset, slightly depress the accelerator and start it. Let it run for a few seconds; then off for a few and when you restart, all should be normal.
Fuel pump relay can be run at Terminal G of the Link - there's really no need to jumper it - it has plenty of fuel; not enough air.
UNhooked battery overnite, still runs rough and is burning a bunch of gas and smoking, I guess I should have just taken it to the professionals in the first place, it ran fine before jumping terminals A and B under dash...
i did not drive it with clip in and no the fan did not run, it turns out that a previous owner had rewired it to ignition, and there was a break in the line, gonna try to wire it back to normal...but there is a problem with computer, when in diagnostic mode it blinks 12 times over and over again, you can barely tell it is blinking, love these old computers, wonder how much a new or reprogrammed one is...
surprisingly inexpensive, but they'll come without the PROM.
One question though comes to mind ....
did you recently run any water into your engine compartment? (cleaning, stuff like that).
