I'm trying to remove the shift **** from an '89 Auto.
I pried out the plastic shift button, removed the metal retainer, and removed the internal snap ring. The **** will move up a couple of mm but thats it. Is it screwed on? Do I need to turn it off the shaft, or should it pull right up?
I know someone has removed one from an auto, whats the deal?
It should pull of from the shifter rod, when shift **** button and the circlip securing the **** to the shift rod preventing its removal is removed. It may be difficult to remove if the recess for the circlip to position in is burred. I fitted a new shift **** a few months ago and had no problem.
