I'm looking to do a complete serpentine belt conversion on my 71 resto-mod Camaro and am trying to find info on my options as far as which cars are suitable donors. I have a Classic Auto Air heat/AC system and it calls for a long water pump. I thought a C4 may be a good one to get as it most likely sits all the accessories low being that Corvettes are not known for hood their clearance ;-)
If anyone has info on this please let me know. Also if anyone has a complete setup for sale let me know.
I know theres a lot of aftermarket stuff from $600 up...looking to do this on a budget of less that $300 for all brackets, atl, ps pump. Will spend a little extra on nice aluminum water pump and new compressor comes with kit from Classic Auto Air. Not looking for the "Bling" effect, just a clean funtional one belt setup.
When I looked at the Vette diagram for the belt routing it shows the AC compressor mounted down low which I like better. I'll have to see if it is another year vette that is supposed to work out.
Anyone know if later model C3's had a serp setup?
Thanks for info. Was told 3rd gen 88-92 Camaro, Vette or a 90-94 4.3L, or SBC truck or S10.
The truck one will work but puts the idler pulley too close and high center of intake and also belt is high going toward alt and so upper rad hose is a little tricky. So far the 88-92 Camaro looks like best bet but all of the junk yards around here dont have any at the moment.
You can get some ideas over on 3rd gen.org mostlly used Camaro stuff some of it is lower fitting. Creative stuff on the cheap.
Vette specific stuff avoid it if you can you just pay more for stuff that does the same thing as the non Vette parts.

TPI C4's have the compressor up top on pass side like the TPI F-Bodies
( as shown in your pic above )
88 -91 C4's have the lower profile and more desirable Denso compressor
FWIW;
The Vette pump is slightly longer than a "short" pump ( pulley can be shimmed to suit) and the TPI serp uses a long pump.
IIRC Both are reverse rotation
