Any one know of someone in upstate NY that has the tools to set up the ring and pinion gears of a Dana 44 properly? No one around here has the right tools. The dealer said they would do it, but would have to purchase the tools, and said the labor would be high.
Any one know of a good place in Rochester, Albany or even NY city to get this done correctly? The differential would be out, so I can drive, or send it to get serviced.
I had my ring and pinion changed out on my dana 44 last winter when I went with 3:75 gears. I went with a guy buzzy that builds the transmissions and sets up rear ends for quite a few short track guys in New england. Hes in springfield mass and charged me 150 bucks. I would try to get a hold of one of the circle track transmission guys near you if possible.

Richard,
I'd suggest you talk to a couple local performance shops in the area. There's usually someone or a couple of preferred builders that the locals use and recommend.
Your "SIG" seems to imply you do drag race from time to time, so I'd think you're well acquainted with most that could give references. The plus for you is that you can have it removed, you won't tie up someones shop.
I'd guess the area you're located in is 4-wheel drive country, nearly everyone of those builds are Dana's of some sort. I'm guessing in a "short conversation" with a recommended builder you could make a reasonable decision as to whether you'll get a quality build or not.
I was going to recommend Joe at Vette Tech in Newburgh but it's as much of a drive as Albany. Joe is I believe winding down his operation but you might email him joe@vettetech.com and maybe ask a referral.
I sold Joe a D44 NOS housing, batwing, differential, gears and short axles for his "Frankensport" project:

I had a 4x4 shop install my Dana 4.10's, and they are quieter than the original gearset.
