I want to try to repair the reverse lock out lever. I am trying to get to shifter to see what is unhooked, ( you can shift into reverse with out moving lockout coller now) and try to repair its function. I can't get the darn **** off the top of the shifter . I know its got to be something simple but I am lost and don't want to break anything else..
I do have a cd service manual but could not find info on removale of shift ****. I must not be smarter than the **** so any info will help...
take a flathead screwdriver and pry out the little plastic pices that shows your shift pattern. insinde there you will see a silver block shaped piece of metal. grab onto that with a pair of pliers and pull it out. be advised, this piece can be very difficult to get out. some people recomend standing over top of it with the targe off and pulling straight up. mine came out without problem. then once that pins out you can just unscrew the ****, which is threaded onto the shifter. good luck!
I have a medium sized flat head screwdriver that I heated and bent into an L shape. Use it all the time. Worked great to pull the pin. Once you have the pin out, throw it away. The **** tightens down before you can put the pin in anyway. Good luck!
