Hi Folks,
I have the AT pan down on my '96 with 50,000 miles. The bottom is covered by black sludge. Is it clutch material? Does that mean I need to start saving for a rebuild? How does the filter come out? I don't see any fasteners. Is it a press fit?
Blackish sludge stuff is normal for a 50K=15 to 16 years transmission.
The filter will get off by pulling and twisting it slowly toward you.
you will also find a magnet in the pan that need to be cleaned at put back in at the same place...
Good luck and have a good one!
I remember some type of sleeve on the tube of the filter that was stuck when the old filter was removed. It was a little tricky to get out out before installing the new one.

Theres a O-ring type seal that has to be removed , it usually stays up in the hole when the filter is removed.. You have to get this out or the new filter won't fit in properly..I use a little hook tool to pull it out .....WW
