Is there an aftermarket cam that will produce more torque with the stock 85 l98 heads? I know they're both crap, but im notasking looking tofor spend much$200 because this motors just going in my Camaro until I get my roller cam zz4 clone built up, which financially being in college and having a finance could be a few years... im asking you vette guys because the only L98s that came in the maros was a roller and had different heads, and most of the Fbody guys don't know anything about the 85 vette. Honestly I know nothing about flat tappet cams except they need to be broke in, I've tickered and modded 3 different small blocks all being roller cam.
Fyi the motor will have long tubes and an open air element, sealed to a cowl hood for cold air. Ill be taking the TPI off, and should be losing about ten lbs of low torque and putting that back up top. What kind of power should I expect?
One more thing, probably plan on selling the TPI but might keep it around just in case, but does anyone care to give me an estimate on an 85open TPI with the 9thstock cold start injector, MAF system, complete with harness and computer and stock manifold?
l98 iron heads were the same as the 84 crossfires i think if your going to carb on the old engine get a small cam valve springs a luniti voodoo cam is a good choice when breaking in a non roller use plenty of cam lube on the lifters then start engine hold a 2500rpm for about 15 mins shut it down check for leaks rechech valve adjustment then start and runn it to 3500rpm or a few mins if it sounds ok change the oil and test drive pluss oil additives with zinc is needed in flat cams zddp is one and reslone sells a additive at advance zinc prevents cam failure
