Have a 1994 LPE with SS shorty headers. It seems the heat in the engine compartment is extreme to the point of melting the plastic wiring loom on the passenger side. Any one else have this problem with heat? 180* therm and the fans working as normal but just seems that too much raidated heat from the headers. Should I wrap them?
Are the headers ceramic coated? I just installed one of my new hooker headers yesterday. After seeing how close some things come to them, I plan on buying some heat wrap and wrapping the OTHER stuff. I don't want to wrap the headers because this supposedly will cause the coating to fail prematurely.
Scorp, I don't think you'll have problems with that HPC coating inside & out. It realy does a great job of getting the heat out the back. I'm running HPC coated TES on the IROC for years and it's even cooler than stock. One of my MSD plug wires is about 1/8-1/4" from a header tube and not a hint of a problem.
al, yours sounds like they arent coated or the coating has worn off, you can have them sent to Jet Hot and recoated, or wrap them up. Would be a good idea to wrap up your starter while youre at it
