So this past summer I had a rebuilt LT1(factory pistons, new cast crank, forged rods w/ ARP bolts) with stock heads, cc503, LT's, catback, in front of a swapped in T-56. At the end of the season the car blew a head gasket and I decided to put her away. Considering the heads have to come off anyways I was going to buy a set of LE2 heads. In addition I am looking to run a hotter cam. I liked all the torque the cc503 gave me and I was hoping to keep some of that but be able to rev out higher also. Can anyone recommend a cam that will push her down into the low 12's high 11's at least and still be very streetable. Lope doesn't matter that much to me as my Camaro has a big lope to it. Also will I be able to retain the Comp Cams "beehive" valve springs for a higher lift cam? I like the idea of a custom cam but I would prefer not to spend a ton of money on a custom cam. Also I was running 12.9's @111MPH on my current setup... Any help is appreciated!
Honest 11s on a 350 with driveability on a stock bottom end ?
You dont ask for much-and pushing a stock bottom end too.
If it were me
Solid roller (better driveability with the extra rpm youll need)
Forget the LT1 head altogether try an AFR
Bump in compression
Fully ported intake
Long tubes
4.11 gear min.
One real good tune
Drag radial/skinnies
Doubt youll get 11s with the LE2. Maybe soooomene out there did but honestly...LE3 your head is going to get way big for a 350 (ones Ive seen are 230-240cc!!) youll get better #s with the AFR on a much smaller port. Youll want 280-300cfm
There are guys that have gone your goal with less but they really really know thier stuff. Tuning on ragged edge, chassis tuning, lightening the car and many many passes down the track to get there (those details arent always revealed). More than just doing mods then getting good time lol.
It's a bottom end with RPM capabilities.... "kinda stock" haha... Pushing a stock bottom end? I've seen 500hp stock bottom end LT's out there. Most LE1/2/3 cars out there run a stock bottom end... Also there is an F-body running 11's with an LE1 cc306 LT1 out there...I'm sure its not a stock bottom end but I'm not either.
I have LE' .579 / .580 on a billet cam... Outstanding...
I would stay away from the single beehive springs with the fast ramp xfi cams... Llyod agreed using my Isky1506 springs or similar
Good call on LT1 heads and performane...this is why I converted Gen1 heads

Do the fast ramp cams put too much of a load on the beehives too quickly? Does it seem to be a common problem? (Breaking the beehives I mean) Its kinda sad, when I first found out about beehives they were the greatest thing since the invention of sliced bread. Now they are ok. Funny how technology advances so quickly...
I have listened.. to many Vids with xfi / beehive builds. the valvetrain noise is extreme
The beehives are a great design.. lighter better rev handeling... But obviously with the taper cannot put enough seat pressure on the valves... Vs ramp speed
My camshaft uses Comps most agressive lobe profiles, and BeeHives
didn't come close to controling the valvetrain. I ended up running Patriot dual springs.
What rear gear were you running with this combination? And this was still the stick-right? Thanks!
Regards,
Steve
At that time the car was a stick with 4:10's, Longtubes, Corsa catback, 58mm TB, Ported LT4 intake and heads. (still run the same heads) Stock bottom with hotcam.

I would like to change rear gears but I might as well wait until I break the 36 before getting new gears. Then I'll up her to a 44 and get new gears. haha I can go a lot higher. Cruising down the highway at 1800-1900rpms I'm at about 90-95 mph in 6th. I have 3.07's. I figured I had 2.56's( I think that was the other size) but an RPO code told me I have 3.07's.
That cam is going to need better gears.. you should find a 44 with at least 3:45
I'm not concerned with that right now. I want the engine then I'll deal with the drivetrain at a later date. I will do rear gears at some point in the future but I don't want to run a smaller cam just b/c I have crappy gears. Not trying to offend you or anything. But Ido agree with you 100%.
My main issue is that if I change to a D44 that I will have to have the driveshaft shortened or a custom length one made. As I am already using a D44 driveshaft b/c the T-56 is an inch longer than the ZF-6.
