Default Do you think this is bad???

I drove from Ft. Walton to Birmingham yesterday afternoon about 300 mi in almost 4 hrs. I was going 80 most of the way, I have 3.73 gears so doing approx 3000 rpms. My oil temp was 240-255 with coolant temps going from 220-230. I arrived at my dads shop pulled the radiator and cleaned it and all of the trash out of the shroad and cleaned the AC condensor coolant temps dropped today to between 190-207 so that helped my only problem now is why is my oil temp so high?? I am running Mobil 1 5W-30 do I need to change oil grades or what?? TIA

I think your oil temp was so high because the engine was running hot...

Oil temp will usually be higher than the water temp.. In my car my oil temp is around 195-200 when I'm driving at 70-80 mph (I also have 3.73 & automatic) However I have a 160 thermostat, & keep my radiator very clean of leaves etc.. (I check it once a week)

On a hot day (80+ deg) I can drive at 90 mph & my oil will stay at 200-210 my water around 185, & trans temp 180 deg..(I also have an aftermarket trans cooler)

The thing to do is check under the car once a week, its a 5 min job, & I've never had any heat related problems..

I need to install a tranny cooler just havent found the time. I am not sure on how to plumb it as well. I was looking at one from TCI and planned on mounting in infront of the AC condensor but like I said I dont know how to plumb it. I really dont want to cut any lines but I guess if I have to I will. Did you use both the aftermarket and the one in the radiator?? I am going to install the 160 thermostat as soon as I go home along with a 96 upper rad hose and blocking off the heater hose to lose the bypass line across the engine to clean it up abit. Could you send me some pics of your tranny cooler and plumbing if you have some??

I am with Red96. I did some testing today with my Auto-Tap on Temps. My oil was about 10 to 12 degrees higher than the coolant
