With 60K miles I figure its time to change the brake fluid. Did a bunch of reading regarding the use of DOT-5 and determined that its not good to use it in my 94'. So-o, I bought a new (?) product by Valvoline called "SynthPower - synthetic formula - DOT 3 & DOT 4 Fluid".....the container claims that its formulated for ABS, hydraulic drum & disc braking systems - but I'm a bit concerned. The "synth" thing has me worried about using it with the existing components - don't want to risk destroying all the rubber parts. Anyone have any experience with this stuff - and / or what would you recommend if not this product??
Thanks Andy. Just didn't want to mess up the ride....guess I'll go ahead with the flush tomorrow - by the way, luv the color of your car!
(My '94 is a Polo / saddle color combo too.)
I've been using Ford High Performance Fluid in all my vehicles. There have been reports of very good high heat characteristics, on many Forums.
Barrier :)
Thanks to everyone. Managed to complete the brake flush using the Valvoline SynPower fluid - took about two hours and has to be the easiest service job I've recently completed on the Vette. I was amazed at how much air was purged from the system during the flush operation and the nasty color of the old fluid. I have to think that this is the first time its been flushed in the 61K miles its been on the road. Feels like the brakes are a bit tighter when stopping....hmmm. Changed/flushed the clutch fluid while I was at it - a bit of a mess since you have to disconnect the actuator and turn it over to bleed it but now that everything is back together I'm glad there's fresh fluid in all the hydralic systems!
