Default Hub centric wheel problem w/TTIIs?

All,

I've posted recently with some questions, but I'm normally on the C3 side. This project is a '68 on a SRIII frame with '87 suspension, hubs, brakes...

I just received my 'special order' TTIIs from ARE and I'm concerned about the wheel bore to hub. I was expecting a hub centric fit (wheel to hub). I did specify 1987 corvette in the 'hub centric' block of the special order form. With that said, the rear wheel backspace is off by 1.25" ... I specified 6.75 backspace and received 5.5" (a backspace more common with C3s) so I'm not sure if there was an incorrect assumption made with the wheel bore?

My question: Is this normal when ordering aftermarket wheels with C4s? Will a spacer ring suffice? I need to send the rear wheels back anyway so looking for advice.

Both front and rear wheels hub-to-bore fitment looks the same...

Thanks,
Rob

Generally accepted "advertised" center-bore is 70.3 mm

I didn't see anything related to center-bore on the order blank I looked at! You needed to ask and "specify" if possible the center-bore dimension. I'm assuming they build a "fit-all" single dimension and you'll need to use hub-centric rings to correct the fit.

These are questions you needed to ask "first" if it was important in your consideration of the wheels!

Buy yourself an inexpensive set of vernier calipers and you do the measuring!

I also noticed that most of the larger vendors advertise the AR wheels as "non hub-centric" for fit! You'll need to also be concerned with your choice of wheel nuts!

Thanks for the response...I've been reading through some archives most of the night. My order form has a section for "CB Center Bore" and I filled it in with "1987 Corvette"...this was also while I was on the phone with the tech at AREs custom order office. I did ask specifically what info they needed and he said that entry was fine. So I was expecting the bore to 'fit' the hub. The more I think about it, I can probably get a better hubcentric effect using composite centering rings?

What I've found in the archives is exactly what you are saying...the AREs are lug centric. I've read that many aftermarket makers machine the bore larger to 'accept' a centering ring.

I'll still need to return the rear wheels. Not sure how a 1.25" error in backspace slipped by everyone?

I was at a friends this evening who is prepping a '60 MY for an SRiii and an LS2 - M6. There was a '68 mentioned in the conversation.

I believe if I were doing a '68 I would have to have had some "steelies" built.
