Since I got ripped off from a guy on this forum, he sold me a defect opti box with the complete system. I thought since the box doesn't work I might as well take it apart and see if anyone has some schematics that could help me out. I have a few people on hand, electronic engineers, which might be able to help.
I already have the wiring harness schematics from the Delteq site. Any help would be appreciated and maybe we can get down to fixing these damn opti boxes.
You can't imagine how pissed off I am, this cost me a total of about $410...
Sorry, I wont disclose his name until I get a little more info about what's wrong with the opti box.
There seem to be quite knowledgeable people on the LS1-Tech forum, they are trying to help me also.
I used to have one of those setups about 5 years ago. The owner of Delteq became ill and quit servicing and selling these. Those optiboxes are worth alot of money now. How do you know the optibox is dead?
I was already using a Delteq system on my Vette, and thought I should get myself a spare opti box, since they are no where to find except one buys a used complete system.
Just swapping boxes showed me the one I bought was defect, because the engine wont start with it.
Hi! I know there are a lot of electronics places out there that can "Reverse Engineer" electronic items, but be careful, trademark/copyright infringement could get you into trouble....
Hope you find a solution.

Well their website is still up and running and they answer the phone as Delteq. So someone is paying the bills so you may want to shoot them a email or call them. For a company that is out of business they appear to be there. I have a box but I do not know if it is good.

Who answered the phone for you? Voicemail doesn't count. When I had trouble with my ignition last year, no amount of voicemail or e-mail would get help. I wish I could have gotten help.... would have kept the system on my car if I did. I took it off when I replaced the opti figuring it was another failure point waiting to happen.
I have seen websites stay up for companies that are out of business for a long periods of time. Sometimes people leave without shutting out the lights.

Matt,
Who are you getting upset at? I stated his website was up and that the phone number was good. I did not talk to anyone, why would I. I don't sell Delteq products and I did not sell this to the OP. I was only trying to help with some information. I spent 5 minutes and found the other name of his company, his name, address and a picture of his house. So do your due diligence and figure it out, I am not responsible for it so don't come at me like that. Personally I would have never bought something like that used, especially if you knew they were no longer selling the product. You know there is a company that make a coil per cylinder setup for an LT1, they are in business and if you need help I am sure they will answer the phone when you call.

Hey fellows, no use getting upset or possibly starting some pis... contest.
I have also tried various times a long time ago to get in touch with someone from Delteq. This has been discussed thoroughly and is well known on the forum, that no one can reach anyone by Delteq.
J.Abbott would you be so kind and look if you can find the opti box you were speaking of???
I will keep this forum informed of the progress I'm making. The most posts are being made on the LS1 Tech forum though.

Don't worry... I am not upset with you, just curious if you had gotten farther than I had at one point. If you could have heard my statement the way I intended it to be that would be clear. That is the problem with this kind of communication.... the message is left up to the reader for interpretation. I was not trying to make a personal attack.
I had no interest in the LS1 coil kit. Looked like a science fair project from their website and never heard of anyone running it. (I think it would have cost me more too) Either way I have move past that part of my life. My opti bit the dust, I replaced it, and sold the Delteq kit since I didn't need it anymore. (I sold it over a year ago on an online auction if anyone is wondering.... as far as I know somebody is enjoying it)

This outfit's still in business and the new box is $250. I've ran this for a several years and had no problems. I no longer have just 1 coil so it can't stop me along side of the road. I no longer have an ICM, so it can't stop me. The box has one plug on it and I have a spare box.....just in case. I don't think it looks like a science fair project. All wiring is under the coil brackets/injector rail covers.

1963, your installation does look great. Simple and clean... I like it. As I recall when you buy that kit it is just the driver box and you have to fabricate everything else to complete the install. I was looking for a complete, "plug and Play" kit at the time I bought the Delteq kit. My Vette is my transportation to work and I did not feel that I had the time to do the engineering work to complete the install and conduct the necessary testing to ensure a reliable system. The Delteq delivered until the opti finally failed.
Back to the original point.... I am betting that the chip with the sticker on it is a custom piece. It may not be but we can't see what the print is on it with the sticker there. A board like that one is very difficult to troubleshoot without documentation. It would almost be impossible to do without the diagrams for the board. Too bad the Delteq guys are not answering the phone and e-mail.
Well you could try to contact the two companies silk screened on the board.
Di Development LLC (but this may be a name used by Delteq)
Plotech Co, Ltd (They are a offshore pcb maker)
Questions:
1) Which board do you consider the smaller one ?
2)From the list below the last mode seems the same as the second Cranking or is the last one when it runs the led stays on?
What I did notice was:
LED flashes once when key on
LED flashes properly during key on and cranking
but none of the coils fires
LED won't turn and stay on while cranking like mine does
I read up on the system and understand it somewhat better.
From what I get out of it your delteq pcb is not what they call syncing.
I'm gonna take a guess and say that it is looking at the two signals from the opti (low and hi res signals from their docs) to determine where the engine is at (learns where tdc is and can then fire the coil(s) at the correct time).
It is always prudent to ensure you have power first in a circuit when troubleshooting so check that voltage regulator first.
Then I would zero in on the 4050 IC labeled U2. It is a buffer search for 4050 data sheet if you need the details. One of the opti signals is either not getting to it or through it.
I'm taking some liberties on how its designed but we have no schematic and its not in my hands to reverse engineer.
I also see what looks like some extra solder floating around pin 14 & 13 of U2.
